Names of Char Dham in India

Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram are the Char Dhams of India.

Badrinath

Badrinath one of the four Dham located in India. Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Badrinath Dham is the only Dham i.e., the part of Char Dham of India and Char Dham of Uttarakhand. Badrinath Dham is dedicated to the “Badri Vishal”, a form of Lord Vishnu. The temple also offers panoramic views of the Nar-Narayan range and Neelkanth peak.

Places to visit – Mana Village, Vasudhara Falls, Ved Vyas Gufa and Satopanth Jheel.

Dwarka

Dwarka is the second Dham of India, located in Gujarat. This Dham adorns a temple situated on the banks of the Arabian Sea. This Dham is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Dwarka is also a city, which is home to religious sites like Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Gomti Ghat and Bet Dwarka Island. Dwarka is believed to be the origin of the city.

Places to visit – Dwarika Beach, Gomti Ghat, Rukimani Devi Mandir, Sudama Setu, and Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple

PURI

Puri Dham, also known as Shri Jagannath Temple. It is located in the state of Odisha, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of “Lord Vishnu”. It is one of the four major pilgrimage centres of India. This place is considered very important for people coming from Vaishnava beliefs. The Dham also hosts the annual Rath Yatra, which is quite popular in India.

Rameshwaram

Rameshwaram Dham, also known as Ramanathaswamy. It is located in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. It is the southernmost place among the Char Dhams of India. This temple is also known for its architectural and engineering marvels. It also includes the longest corridor with over 4000 pillars.

Names of Char Dham in Uttarakhand

The Char Dhams of Uttarakhand are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These Dhams are a significant pilgrimage for people residing in India.

Yamunotri

Yamunotri Dham, located in Uttarkashi, is the first stop of the Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand. The Yamunotri temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the source of the river Yamuna. From the temple, one can get an amazing view of mountains in the backdrop of river Yamuna. Yamunotri Dham is one of the major pilgrimage destinations in India, where the female form of river is worshiped.

Gangotri

Gangotri, situated at a distance of about 226 km from Yamunotri, is the second Dham in the Char Dham. It is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, one of the important holy rivers of India. Ganga is also the national river of India, which reaches the Bay of Bengal after traveling about 2,510 km. Ganga, a revered river in Hinduism, is visited by people from all over the world at Gangotri Dham.

Kedarnath

Kedarnath Dham, located in Rudraprayag, is Kedar Khand dedicated to Lord Shiva. A height of 3584 meters distinguishes it from the sea. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and the main abode of Panch Kedar. The doors of Kedarnath Dham are open from April to October. If anybody wants to pay a visit to Kedarnath Dham after October, they can visit the winter abode of Kedarnath Ji i.e., Omkareshwar temple. It is the place where the idol of Baba Kedar is placed in winters.

Badrinath

Located at a distance of 220 km from Kedarnath, Badrinath Dhams is a significant Dham for devotees of Lord Vishnu. One can visit this Dham as a part of the Char Dham yatra in Uttarakhand or The Do Dham Kedarnath-Badrinath Yatra, which are the holiest pilgrimages of all time. Badrinath Dham is open from April to October for tourists. If any devotee wants to visit Lord Badrinath after October, they can visit the Winter Circuit of Char Dham in Uttarakhand. This circuit covers the winter abode of Lord Badrinath i.e Yog Dhyan Badri.
